Beginning our journey through Israel

We have been busy exploring Israel: our first stop was Tel Aviv. We discovered the sights and sounds of this very modern, cosmopolitan city!

Our next stop was the Judean Desert. Our students created travel brochures highlighting some of the famous sights to be found in this part of Israel.

Next stop: HAIFA!

How Do You Get to the Bima?

As the old story goes... how do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice! That's exactly what we will be doing for the next few weeks!

We are getting ready to lead parts of Friday Evening services! We are scheduled to lead on Friday, October 30, so please mark your calenders now. It is a great way to see how much your children have learned... as well as a glimpse into the future and a B'nai Mitzvah (It goes fast, believe me!)!

There is a wonderful website that can help make practice perfect...it is called Siddur Audio. It has all the prayers to help prep for both Friday Evening and Shabbat. I encourage families to take advantage of this great link:

I can't wait to see "our kids" on the Bima!

Our holidays continue... we have arrived at the week long celebration of Sukkot, followed by Shemini Atzerit and Simchat Torah!

Our 5th grade has learned about the important mizvot of building and sitting in the sukkah as well as gathering the 4 species -Arbah Minim - thought to represent the unity of Israel(palm, willows, myrtles that make the lulav along with the etrog).

We also learned the blessings associated with Sukkot. 5th graders certainly know how to do the Lulav Shake!

We will be treated to "Pizza in the Hut" next Wednesday(Thank you Ms. Judy!) and will then know that everyone in 5th grade has completed the Mitzvah of לשבת בסוכה (sitting in the sukkah).

חג שמח!

Welcome to our 5th grade Blog!

Hello 5th grade families!

Our 5th grade blog is finally up and running!  I hope everyone has enjoyed the High Holidays, starting with apples and honey and ending with a delicious break the fast!

Our 5th graders have celebrated in the classroom (pomegranates), brought home Shana Tova treats and reflected on the wonderful ways they plan on helping their community and family in the new year.

Our next sessions will be focusing on the fun holidays of Sukkot and Simchat Torah.  We will also learn a little about Shemini Artzerit and its significance in the Jewish religion.

I plan on keeping you informed about everything we are learning this year.  Stay tuned for contributions from your children.  I hope to be displaying art work, poetry and research over the coming months.

Please be assured that only Rodeph Sholom members will have access to our blog.  I will never post students' names or pictures on the blog.

Thank you for sharing your children with me.  I am looking forward to a fun filled year!
